Golden, Colorado, (June 1859) was founded by the Boston Town Company. Named Golden City, the trading company's log structure also served as the first post office and a stage stop. The city is credited with the first school in Jefferson County(January 1860),and the oldest educational institution of higher learning in the state, the School of Mines. Golden, an important railroad center, was the Capital of the Colorado Territory for 1863 to 1867.

Genesee:

Genesee is a great city, allowing Colorado residents to live both the urban and country lifestyles. Genesee has a convenient location, only requiring a short drive to Denver with fantastic views of the Colorado foothills along the way. The area's sheer beauty makes for a more pleasurable commute. For those of you who want to live near Denver but long for a quiet retreat, Genesee is perfect for you. There is no better place to enjoy all of the outdoor activities that Colorado has to offer.

In contrast to many of Colorado's villages and towns, Genesee is a newly established community. At the young age of 20, Genesee is younger then the majority of its residents. Genesee is beautifully set alongside the mountain foothills that border Interstate 70, adding to its navigational convenience.

Of the 2,000 plus-acres that Genesee is comprised of, nearly half of the area has been preserved for hiking and other nature appreciation activities. Genesee has an abundance of meadows, streams and woodland, making it one of the most beautiful communities that Colorado has to offer. Because many of the new homes in this area offer their residents private access to tennis courts, swimming, and more. It is easy to see why property values continue to go up.
